NGORA Urges Nsanje NGOs to Align With Malawi 2063 for Greater Community Impact

By Burnett Munthali

The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Regulatory Authority (NGORA) has urged NGOs operating in Nsanje to ensure that the funds they receive directly benefit the common man.

Washington Kufakuwawa, NGORA’s Monitoring and Analysis Officer based in Nsanje, made the call during an engagement with local NGOs.

He emphasized that NGOs have a duty to maximize public benefits through their projects and interventions.

Kufakuwawa believes that this can be achieved by aligning their programs with the Malawi 2063 vision and the District Development Plan (DDP).

He stated that alignment with national and local development strategies ensures sustainability, coordination, and relevance of NGO activities.

In a related development, Chididi Health for All Organisation (CHAFO), one of the NGOs operating in the district, is taking steps to strengthen its internal capacity.

CHAFO is among the organizations that have accessed funding from NGORA specifically for capacity building initiatives.

The organisation has received K9.5 million aimed at supporting strategic planning and operational efficiency.

Jofirisi Jofirisi, the Executive Director of CHAFO, highlighted the importance of inclusivity in the organization’s strategic planning process.

He said stakeholder input is essential in shaping the direction of the organization.

Jofirisi noted that such collaboration with stakeholders will enhance the smooth implementation of projects on the ground.

He added that by involving stakeholders, CHAFO aims to deliver more responsive and impactful interventions.

Both NGORA and CHAFO stress the importance of community engagement and alignment with national goals as key to achieving lasting development.

The appeal by NGORA comes at a time when scrutiny of development aid effectiveness is intensifying across Malawi.

It also underscores a growing expectation that NGOs should deliver measurable and people-centered results aligned with broader policy frameworks.
