Jumah warns 16th September elections not credibly and peacefully free

By Vincent Gunde

President of the 14th Revolutionary Party Muvi wa Chilungamo Bantu Saunders Jumah, has warned Malawians that the 16th September, 2025 elections will not be credibly and peaceful free with security agencies to be led or manned by Merlyn Yolamu and General Dr. Paul Velentino Phiri.

Jumah said these two, Inspector General of Police and MDF Commander have breached the law and violated peace and freedom of the country questioning the two that if they are not part and parcel of supporting these gangsters, why they are not arresting MCP gangsters?

He has reminded President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera that when the freedom fighters and Malawians fought for multiparty democracy in the country may be he was at school or in a church, some Malawians including him were beaten and tortured but in the end, democracy was achieved.

Speaking through a press statement dated 27th June, 2025 Jumah has made it clear to President Chakwera that Malawi is a democracy, no one will succeed to bring back one party state and dictatorship saying Malawians in 1994 made a declaration that never again shall the country go back to one party state.

Jumah amid apartheid in South Africa and amid negotiations, Black people opted to revenge against the whites and the leader rose up Nelson Mandela told them not to revenge claiming that what they wanted was already achieved.

He said when Malawians fought against the DPP in 2019, they did not want gangsters to be wielding pangas in the streets, they did not want to see their country in violence observing that DPP violence made other people to run away from their houses.

The MRP President has asked President Chakwera to copy Mandela’s legacy of not revenging against those that are opposing his leadership style, this is time for forgiveness questioning President Chakwera to prove to Malawians if he is interested in peace-making or violent-making.

He said it is sad that many people have advised him to fire Defense Force Commander, Inspector General of Police, Minister of Homeland Security Ezekiel Ching’oma and Richard Chimwendo Banda but has defied the calls questioning President Chakwera that is there anything he know about them that the citizens don’t know?

“We want to stress open that the 16th September, 2025 elections are not safe with security forces led by General Velentino Phiri and Madam Merlyn Yolamu, we are demanding their firing so that the citizens can have hope of the security of the coming elections,” said Jumah.

He has also asked President Chakwera that if he has nobody to replace Defense Force Commander General Phiri, Malawians are calling upon the former Defense Commander General Vincent Nundwe to come back because he know what it takes to be the head of security.

Jumah said no country will develop without security of its people saying President Chakwera, General Phiri and Merlyn Yolamu must know that freedom of a political party in government is the same as that of others, Malawians are all under the law.

He said in democracy, there is no party that is more powerful than the others advising General Phiri and Merlyn Yolamu that their first priority to serve is the country and the people and not the political party they are affiliated to.

The MRP President has therefore, condemned in strongest terms possible what happened at Mbowe filling station in Lilongwe on the 24th February, 2024, Mponela and Machinga and the recent incident where activist Sylvester Namiwa was left half-dead assaulted in full view of Police and MDF officers who did not bother to rescue him from the attackers.

Juman has sent a strong warning that if Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) is voted into power on the 16th September, 2025 elections, they will reinstitute Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Malawi.

He said in the country, there are people that need to go to jail, people that need to face justice saying if they don’t bring truth, the country will never be peaceful as truth never gets old advising Malawians not to say what happened in 1964 are old stories, peace is prerequisite, there’s no substitute for peace, Malawi needs peace.
