Mchinji, Malawi — Struggling NBS Bank National Division League side Mchinji Villa has appointed former Flames midfielder Joseph Kamwendo as its new head coach following the sacking of Eliya Phiri due to poor performance.
The decision comes after a disappointing start to the season, with the team collecting only three points from six matches and currently sitting at 11th place in the league standings.
Kamwendo, a seasoned football figure in Malawi and former head coach of Super League outfit Creck Sporting, has been entrusted with the task of revitalizing the team’s campaign and steering them away from the lower ranks.
Speaking after his appointment, Kamwendo expressed optimism and a clear vision for the club’s turnaround.
“My focus is to bring stability, discipline, and winning mentality to this team. I believe we can bounce back with the right mindset,” he said.
Shigai Chipeta, the club’s team leader, said the decision to bring in Kamwendo was based on his experience and proven tactical skills.
“He has coached top-tier teams before and his technical knowledge will help us improve both performance and confidence on the pitch,” said Chipeta.
Kamwendo’s appointment has raised hopes among Mchinji Villa supporters, who are eager to see their team reclaim form and make a mark in the 2025 season.
