Irate vendors in Blantyre have taken to the streets, demanding the immediate release of their market chairperson.

According to unverified reports from anonymous vendors, the chairperson was arrested on allegations of purchasing stolen goods.

South West Region Police Deputy Spokesperson, Beatrice Mikuwa, has requested more time to gather details before making an official comment on the incident.

During the protest, vendors threw stones at incoming traffic and blocked roads using large rocks, causing significant disruption.

In response, police officers deployed teargas to disperse the crowd and restore order.

The situation remains tense as vendors continue to press for their demands amid ongoing investigations.

This incident underscores the challenges local authorities face in balancing law enforcement and maintaining peace in commercial areas.
