The vibrant and fast-rising “Masintha Mass Women Choir” has received a major financial boost amounting to MK26 million from two prominent political figures, signaling a growing recognition of the choir’s influence in the country’s political and social space.

The donations were made during a colorful ceremony in Lilongwe to officially launch the choir’s widely celebrated song, “Takulandilani Kuno ku Masintha” (Welcome to Masintha), which has gained traction for its spirited performance and unifying message.

Alfred Gangata, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Central Region Governor, led the gesture with a MK16 million donation. He was followed by UTM president and presidential hopeful Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, who pledged MK10 million. The funds are aimed at helping the choir, made up of women from the opposition alliance, to purchase a bus and further professionalize their operations.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mrs. Motella Ndau, one of the choir’s lead vocalists, said the women were overwhelmed with gratitude.

“We are truly thankful to Mr. Gangata and Dr. Kabambe for believing in our dream. With this support, our long-standing goal of owning a bus to ease our mobility challenges is finally becoming a reality,” she said.

The Masintha Mass Women Choir has become a voice for grassroots women, blending music and advocacy, and is increasingly being seen as a symbol of unity and empowerment ahead of the September 16 general elections.

Their newly launched song has not only drawn attention for its catchy rhythm and lyrics but also for its subtle political undertones, calling for change and hope across the country.
