The Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Justice Annabelle Mtalimanja, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Malawi Police Service for the vital security support provided throughout the voter registration process.
Speaking during the official launch of the 2025 General Elections campaign period, Mtalimanja commended the professionalism and commitment shown by the police in maintaining law and order.
She noted that the presence of police officers at registration centers across the country played a critical role in ensuring that the process was conducted peacefully and without major incidents.
According to Mtalimanja, the successful completion of the registration exercise was largely due to the collaborative efforts between MEC and law enforcement agencies.
She said the security provided by the police allowed both MEC staff and the general public to operate in a safe and protected environment.
The MEC Chairperson also acknowledged the long hours, discipline, and dedication shown by officers in all regions, often working under challenging conditions.
She emphasized that their work helped boost public confidence in the electoral process and created a sense of safety and order for all participants.
Mtalimanja further assured the police that MEC remains committed to working closely with security agencies throughout the electoral cycle, including the campaign and polling periods.
She urged continued collaboration to ensure that the entire 2025 election process is free, fair, and peaceful.
As the campaign season begins, Mtalimanja called on political parties and supporters to respect law enforcement officers and support their efforts to keep the peace.
Her message served not only as appreciation but also as a reminder of the crucial role that security institutions play in upholding democracy and electoral integrity.
The acknowledgment of the Malawi Police Service reflects MEC’s broader commitment to conducting credible elections in a safe and secure environment.
