Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda has called on Malawians to rally behind President Lazarus Chakwera in the upcoming elections, praising his leadership for uplifting farmers through fair crop prices.
Speaking at a highly attended MCP political rally at Chithiba School in Kasungu, Chithyola Banda said President Chakwera has created policies that ensure farmers earn better from their harvests — a key step in improving livelihoods in rural communities.
“Kasungu is the birthplace of the MCP, and the people here must stand firm in protecting the party that has always had their interests at heart,” Chithyola declared to loud cheers from the crowd.
On the growing concern of hunger across some parts of the country, the Finance Minister assured the public that government is aware of the situation caused by climate change and has already secured funds to buy maize for affected families.
Meanwhile, aspiring MP for Kasungu Municipality, Wisdom Chimgwede, pledged to transform the area into a modern city if elected, saying: “Our district has potential, and with your vote, we can unlock it.”
The rally also saw a political boost for the ruling party, as several members from the opposition AFORD — including former Central Region Governor Kesamula Kaning’a Chipeni — officially defected to the MCP.
As the 2025 elections draw near, MCP continues to consolidate its base in key regions, with party leaders urging unity and continued support for President Chakwera’s vision.
