Blantyre, Malawi — In a vibrant display of unity and hope, Christopher Kondwani Mogoya, the Shadow Councillor and a leading candidate for the Namiwawa–Sunnyside Ward, officially submitted his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on Monday afternoon at Namiwawa Primary School.

Mogoya’s nomination was marked by an impressive procession of supporters representing diverse political parties from Chilomoni Fargo, Blantyre Vendors, Bwamnoni, Namiwawa, Sunnyside, Kampala, and Manase.
This remarkable cross-party backing underscores his reputation as a development-driven leader who prioritizes inclusivity over partisan divides.
Known for his humility and genuine connection to the community, Mogoya’s campaign has gained traction particularly among women, youth, and small business vendors. “I represent the people—women, youths, and vendors. My goal is to empower them economically so they can become self-reliant contributors to their families and communities,” he said.
Unlike candidates who rely heavily on posters and grand speeches, Mogoya’s approach has been grassroots, engaging with residents door to door to understand their challenges and aspirations.
A recurring concern he encountered was the lack of awareness about government resources and opportunities for economic empowerment.
Many women running small businesses were unaware of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loans, while youth and entrepreneurs cited strict loan collateral requirements as barriers to accessing financial support.
Mogoya also highlighted the untapped local economic potential in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, mobile money, real estate, and transport services.
He believes that while the national government has launched initiatives in these areas, effective grassroots leadership is essential to bridge the gap between policies and the people.
Addressing the increasing presence of motorcycle taxis, known locally as kabanza, Mogoya proposed implementing regulations including training and insurance to ensure safer transport and reduce accidents, while preserving jobs for young people.
Running on the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ticket alongside Shadow MP Hon. Charles Joshi, Mogoya’s vision is clear: transformative, inclusive leadership that centers on real action rather than empty promises.
His deep ties to the community, accessible leadership style, and commitment to economic empowerment position him as a formidable candidate ready to serve the people of Namiwawa–Sunnyside Ward.
