The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) was abuzz with excitement as President Lazarus Chakwera presented his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) on Wednesday afternoon at the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe. By his side stood his trusted ally, Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba, who would be his running mate in the upcoming elections.

After the nomination process, Mumba took the stage to express his gratitude to President Chakwera for choosing him as his running mate.

Speaking to a jubilant crowd after the nomination, Mumba expressed his gratitude to President Chakwera for choosing him as his running mate.

“I am humbled and honoured to be part of this journey with President Chakwera,” he said.

Mumba praised Chakwera’s leadership and vision for Malawi, highlighting the president’s commitment to empowering the youths and promoting economic growth.

Mumba also took a moment to appreciate Catherine Gotani Hara, the Speaker of the National Assembly, calling her his sister and praising her humility and dedication.

“She is a true and humble leader, and I am honoured to work alongside her,” he said.

Mumba, serving as Minister of Trade and Industry, highlighted the importance of involving youths in decision-making, noting that Chakwera’s choice of a young running mate shows his commitment to progress.

“A country that doesn’t involve its youth in decision-making won’t progress. President Chakwera has shown that he wants our country to move forward, which is why he’s chosen a young person as his running mate,” he said.

In a lighthearted moment, Mumba referenced Peter Tosh’s song “Coming in Hot,” saying: “As MCP, we are coming hot, hot, hot, and we are ready to take on the challenge.”

The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, showing their enthusiasm for the MCP’s message of hope and change.

As the MCP duo embarked on their electoral journey, they vowed to work tirelessly to address the challenges facing Malawi and to build a brighter future for all citizens.
