As the countdown to polling day continues, the shadow Member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe Mpenu Constituency under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Hon. David Kambalame, today presented his nomination letters with a passionate appeal to voters to vote for him, DPP councillors, and DPP presidential candidate Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, if they desire tangible development in the area.

Hon. Kambalame arrived at Mwatibu Primary School around 1 PM, where he was warmly welcomed by enthusiastic DPP supporters from both Sanjika and Mpenu wards. He was accompanied by two aspiring DPP ward councillors: Jane Banda for Sanjika Ward and Mayeso Lemani for Mazengera Ward.
The nomination process began with the presentation of nomination letters by the two councillors, followed by Hon. Kambalame’s submission.
Speaking after her submission, Jane Banda expressed her excitement and confidence in engaging in an issue-based campaign. She called on voters to support her, Hon. David Kambalame, and Professor Mutharika if they genuinely want to see the area experience meaningful development.
One of the DPP constituency executive members, speaking to a Malawi Freedom Network reporter, emphasized that voters in Lilongwe Mpenu will support Hon. Kambalame because he is known for initiating development projects and for his humility. He warned voters not to repeat the “mistake of 2019” when they voted for the MCP candidate, who has allegedly failed to deliver and has been absent in the constituency.
He cited numerous challenges facing the constituency, including inflation and the skyrocketing cost of fertilizer, which was once promised to be affordable. “This is not the Canaan we were promised,” he remarked.
Hon. Kambalame, in his remarks to the press, expressed gratitude to the people for entrusting him with the responsibility of representing the DPP in the upcoming elections. He urged voters to rally behind him and vote for Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as President in the forthcoming general elections.
The event was spiced up by traditional dances and musical performances organized by the DPP media team. The atmosphere remained calm, with adequate security personnel present throughout the function.
As of now, Hon. David Kambalame is expected to face five contestants—all from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP)—in the parliamentary race. Currently, the constituency is under Hon. Eisenhower Mkaka, who is also contesting in the upcoming elections. However, following a disputed MCP primary marred by violence, several losing aspirants have opted to run as independents after the MCP executive controversially declared Mkaka as the winner.
