DPP–AFORD Alliance Promises “Real Solutions” as Manifesto Launches in Blantyre

By Suleman Chitera

Malawians are being urged to “brace for answers” as the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) gears up to unveil its much-anticipated manifesto tomorrow, August 3, at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

According to DPP’s event chairperson, Sameer Suleman, the manifesto is designed to address the country’s toughest challenges head-on. Speaking during a joint press briefing with Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) leaders, Suleman emphasized that this partnership represents a turning point ahead of the September 16 elections.

“This manifesto will not just speak; it will offer real solutions,” he said.

A Show of Strength

The launch will be accompanied by a parade from Upper Stadium to Njamba Freedom Park, signaling what DPP Governor Charles Mchacha calls a “march toward hope.”

Both party leaders—Peter Mutharika (DPP) and Enoch Chihana (AFORD)—will headline the event, promising to rally Malawians behind a shared vision for change.

Why AFORD Joined the Pact

AFORD’s Deputy Secretary General, Chris Taulo, explained that the alliance is rooted in shared priorities: rescuing Malawians from worsening economic hardships and rebuilding a nation that works for everyone.

“Our policies converge on one goal—liberating Malawians from the struggles they face,” Taulo noted.

The Big Question

With expectations soaring, the real test will be whether this manifesto delivers more than promises. As Malawians prepare to watch the parade of leaders and ideas tomorrow, one question lingers: Can the DPP–AFORD alliance turn words into action?
