President of the Republic of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, has commended his Malawi Congress Party (MCP) running mate, Vitumbiko Mumba, for organizing the Dolo Amavotera Chakwera Music Challenge Grand Finale, an event that showcased the talents of young musicians from across the country.
Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on Saturday, President Chakwera said Malawi is home to many gifted young artists who, with proper support, can elevate the countrys music industry to international recognition.
“I thank Hon. Vitumbiko Mumba for organizing this music challenge which has brought together vibrant young talents. We must mobilize more resources to support initiatives like this, so that more young people can showcase their abilities and contribute to the growth of our music industry,” Chakwera said.
He acknowledged that the music industry has helped Malawian artists develop the confidence to compete with renowned international musicians.
One of the winners, Emanuel Harry, who was awarded Best Amapiano Artist accolade, expressed gratitude for the initiative, saying it has greatly impacted his career.
“This challenge has boosted my confidence and ambition to become a celebrity. It has also encouraged many other musicians to showcase their talents. No one expected the overwhelming joy were experiencing today, with so many prizes awarded to young artists to help them advance in their careers,” Harry said.
He urged the government to continue supporting such initiatives, noting that the challenge was open to all aspiring musicians willing to compete.
Out of nearly 220 participants, fourteen musicians were selected to compete in the top five categories, and each winner has received K5 million for their winning entries.
