Motorists in Malawi could soon see an end to instant traffic fines if the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wins the upcoming election.
The party says it plans to abolish on-the-spot penalties and replace them with modern monitoring systems, including CCTV cameras, to enforce road safety laws.
“No more on-the-spot fines. We need to put some mechanism like having CCTV cameras,” the DPP announced during its policy presentation.
According to the party, the move is designed to improve transparency, curb corruption, and ensure fair treatment of drivers, while still holding offenders accountable.
If implemented, the proposal would mark one of the most significant changes to Malawi’s traffic enforcement in years.
