Information Minister Hon. Moses Kunkuyu has come under intense public scrutiny following his recent remarks regarding the late Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.
Speaking to the nation, Kunkuyu claimed that before his passing, Dr. Chilima had confided in him about his intention to support President Lazarus Chakwera in the 2025 general elections.
Kunkuyu alleged that Chilima whispered to him during a trip to South Korea, saying, “Moses, when we return from Korea, let us begin discussions for 2025. I will lead in the future, not now… I am still young… God will decide.”
However, the comments have sparked outrage, with many accusing Kunkuyu of falsely attributing words to someone who is no longer alive to confirm or deny them.
Critics argue that invoking the name and spirit of the deceased for political gain is deeply disrespectful, potentially invoking spiritual consequences such as curses or misfortunes.
Many Malawians have since called for restraint and integrity in political discourse, especially when referencing the dearly departed who are remembered with reverence and respect.
