Khumbo Kachali: “Come September 16, It’s Goodbye to MCP Rule”

Former Vice-President Khumbo Kachali has issued a bold declaration, urging Malawians to prepare for a new chapter in the country’s leadership. Speaking at a vibrant campaign rally in Zolozolo, Mzuzu, where he shared the stage with People’s Party leader Joyce Banda, Kachali said the September 16 elections will mark the end of Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’s rule.

“Come September 16, Malawians must prepare to kiss goodbye to the Malawi Congress Party administration,” Kachali told a cheering crowd.

The seasoned politician, who is running as Joyce Banda’s deputy, described the upcoming election as a turning point for a nation grappling with rising prices and persistent fuel shortages.

“It is funny that President Lazarus Chakwera passed through long queues of fuel on his way to Mzuzu. During our time, we did not have these problems. Only Joyce Banda and I can turn around the situation,” said Kachali.

He called on voters to reject the current leadership, accusing it of presiding over worsening economic conditions that have left many Malawians struggling to afford basic necessities.

Joyce Banda, who led the country from 2012 to 2014, is making a strong bid for a political comeback, positioning herself and Kachali as the experienced team ready to rescue Malawi from its current crisis.

With the political temperature rising and campaign messages heating up, the Zolozolo rally marks yet another significant moment in what is shaping up to be one of the most closely contested elections in recent Malawian history.
