Member of Parliament for Mzimba South Constituency, Emmanuel Chambulanyina Jere, has been granted bail by the Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe after being arrested over allegations linked to the theft of quarry materials.BRICS: French President Emmanuel Macron To Attend Summit in August?

His lawyer, George Jivason Kadzipatike, confirmed the development, saying the court ordered Jere to deposit a K1 million cash bond, provide one non-cash surety bonded at K3 million, and report to Police Headquarters once every fortnight.

Kadzipatike further revealed that Jere has been formally charged with abuse of office under the Corrupt Practices Act.

The legislator is expected to return to court as the case progresses.
