Former Blantyre City Legislator Noel Lipipa, has claimed that the real crisis facing Malawi is not legal for amendment of existing electoral laws, but it is an economic and governance disaster, born of mismanagement and failed leadership.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera summoned the Malawi Parliament to reconvene to discuss amendment of the electoral laws to allow officers and individuals to vote for candidate of their choice away from where they registered.
Lipipa faulted President Chakwera wrong for his claims of clarification summoning Parliament to reconvene that the country is facing legislation crisis demanding Parliament to meet in as soon as yesterday to amend the existing electoral laws.
Writing on his face book page, Lipipa has claimed that the country has resources, but for them to matter, Malawians must commit to living within their means but instead, Malawians are seeing reckless spending –like dispatching a 43- member delegation travelling with the Vice President Dr. Michael Usi to Turkmenistan for nothing more than taking photos.
Lipipa has observed that Members of Parliament (MPs) are being pushed to amend a law enacted just 2 years ago by Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo SC claiming that he is the same minister at accost of over a billion Kwacha to reconvene Parliament.
He has questioned Malawians that if this is not fiscal recklessness, what is it? Saying the proposed change allowing polling staff, security officers, `and party agents to vote where they are stationed, is hardly the emergency Malawians are enduring today given the fact it is already existed and was used in the past elections before the 2023 amendment.
“When the motion was tabled to waive the 28-day notice, I stood firm, our crisis is not legislation, it is a crisis of governance, my answer remains a resounding, NO,” reads Lipipa’s writings on the wall.
Recently, Vice President of the Republic of Malawi Dr. Michael Usi, surprised the nation when joined the suffering Malawians that government must bring fuel to fueling stations not taking fuel like a football commentary that joined that fuel has arrived in Tanzania and Mozambique.
On his part, Mzimba North constituency soft spoken former legislator Yeremia Chihana, said the MCP from 1994 they have been rejecting democracy in Malawi describing it as a constitution terrorist under the guise of electoral laws.
Chihana said individuals in the MCP has raped the Constitution of the party where the running mate has become the Vice President and today, they want to rape the Republican Constitution assuring them that on the 16th September, 2025 they risk to be arrested.
“We are witnessing history, we are removing the MCP out of government, Titus Mvalo and Richard Chimwendo Banda, prepare yourself, you will be arrested for breaking the Constitution,” said Chihana in Parliament.
He noted with a grave concern that the MCP rejected a report from Legal Affairs committee describing this as a serious breach of the law seriously issuing a Warrant of Arrest to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s cabinet.
