NIC Leeds Rhinos have confirmed that Malawi netball star and fan favourite Joyce Mvula will return for the 2026 Netball Super League season.
Mvula, who has been the team’s top goal scorer for the past two years, once again proved her value in 2025 — netting 505 goals to finish fifth in the league’s scoring charts. She was also named Coaches’ Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
The 34-year-old shooter, who made her international debut for the Malawi Queens in 2010, previously enjoyed a successful stint with Manchester Thunder, winning the Super League title in 2022 before moving to New Zealand side Central Pulse. She joined the Rhinos in 2024.
Speaking about her return for a third season, Mvula expressed her delight:
“I’m just happy for the opportunity and grateful. This is going to be my third season, and I think I’m quite comfortable here. I love it here and I take this as my home.
The Rhinos fans have been with us, in hard times and in good times. We love our fans and want them to continue on this journey with us. I can’t wait to see them next season and bring them entertaining games to watch.”
Rhinos head coach Lauren Palmer praised the Malawian shooter’s growth and impact both on and off the court.
“I’m absolutely thrilled that Joyce has re-signed with us. She’s grown tremendously over the past year — physically stronger, more confident in her movement, and able to sink super shots with consistency.
Beyond her performance on the court, Joyce is an exceptional person who adds so much value to our environment. Her attitude, work ethic, and potential are second to none, and I’m really excited to continue working with her next season.”
Mvula will be aiming to lead the Rhinos’ attack once again when the 2026 Netball Super League season gets underway.
