The Consumer Association of Malawi (CAMA) has written to Presidential Candidate Professor Peter Mutharika of the People’s Development Party (PDP), seeking clarification on the party’s socio-economic recovery and prosperity promises outlined in its manifesto.

CAMA’s role is to encourage and mobilize consumers nationwide to understand how the PDP’s manifesto and policies will impact their lives. The association believes that the responses will strengthen the party’s campaign messages.
In a letter signed by CAMA’s Executive Director Davis Kapito, dated August 2025, requested parties to provide detailed responses to a list of questions aimed at expanding on the manifesto’s key points.
“Our questions focus on how the parties intend to generate resources to support the promises and protect the interests of consumers,” reads part of the letter.
The consumer rights body, emphasibed on the importance of timely clarification on the party’s plans given until August 30, 2025, to respond to the questions, an initiative seen as a crucial step in promoting transparency and accountability in the lead-up to the September 16, 2025, elections.
” Go forth and speak only political truth that will unite and uplift the nation from the socio-economic quagmire and set us back on the path to achieving the beautiful vision of Malawi 2063 Goals,” concludes Kapito.
This move is part of CAMA’s efforts to engage with political parties and ensure that consumer interests are protected in the country’s development agenda.
