A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) member Baba Tharmes, says what God gives one even if one snatches away from him, it will come back to him through another way observing that Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s coming out from a cocoon, has earned him more support even from MCP members.
Baba Tharmes has claimed that Mutharika’s removal from Government after he was Sworn-in as President of the Republic of Malawi in May, 2019, God was not happy with what happened saying this why the MCP leadership under President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has met several challenges from natural disasters to leadership.
He said many people including MCP members thought that Professor Mutharika is sick, frail and old enough to come out from his house to campaign for votes, but God has proved to Malawians his greatness that Mutharika is alive dismissing all claims of escorting him to an early grave.
In his contribution to a phone-in- programme on Malawi Freedom Fighters radio, Baba Tharmes said the coming out of Professor Mutharika has made many DPP members that were doubting of his health, to mobilize one another including those of MCP to vote for him on the 16th September, 2025 elections.
Baba Tharmes said Professor Mutharika has earned millions of support from MCP members not ready to vote for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera into government observing that Mutharika is relying on the same Malawians that voted him out of power in June, 2020.
He said people that lined up on the M1 Road from Nsipe in Ntcheu to Lilongwe and from Lilongwe to Mzuzu to welcome Mutharika back from a cocoon, has proved that in Mutharika, there is trusted leadership which can take the country far from abstract poverty to prosperity.
The MCP member said the MCP and President Chakwera will fall on the 16th September, 2025 elections because its leadership has failed to listen to the voices of reason, greed by MCP members themselves, and no experience by those who were very close to President Chakwera.
He observed that the country had enough forex at the time President Chakwera took over government in June, 2020 but extravagance travelling to conferences, seminars and workshops within and outside the country drain away all the much-need forex.
Baba Tharmes said the MCP and President Chakwera were being seen splashing money in K50,000s as handouts to voters including K2000s as token of appreciations for attending MCP rallies observing that this has resulted into the country having no forex, no fuel, no medicines in hospitals, and many others.
He said the MCP government fired all experienced technocrats in government suspected them of being cadets and replaced them with party loyalists who don’t have any experience on how government machinery works, saying these people have contributed to President Chakwera’s downfall.
“President Chakwera has been shielding corrupt ministers, advisors, senior government officials, and party loyalists from arrests and prosecutions, he is going out of government with a bad legacy,” said Baba Tharmes.
He said the MCP and President Chakwera has learnt a big lesson from Mutharika’s out from a cocoon that what God gives to someone, no one can take it away from him, assuring President Chakwera and the MCP that proven leadership is coming with the one chosen by God.
