The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has arrested a suspect Ms. Rhoda Ndovie following an investigation launched after the public reported suspected offenses on Alliance for Democracy’s (AFORD) campaign materials.
The MRA says the suspect is a customs clearing agent who operates as “Limu Clearing” allegedly imported goods from South Africa into Malawi, the import paper work at Dedza Border, listed the importers as Rhoda Ndovie-Chigomezgo and Bongani Investments, and the clearing agent is Limu Clearing.
The organization says its investigations have revealed that the suspect allegedly falsified import documents by changing the importer’s name from AFORD/ DPP to Rhoda Ndovie-Chigomezgo and Bongani investments.
The MRA further says the suspect also falsified the goods quantity and value leading to an alleged tax evasion of over MK300 million claiming that the suspect’s own business entities are alleged to have evaded other taxes including Value Added Tax (VAT).

The organization conducted a search at the premises of AFORD President Mr. Enock Kamzingeni Chihana in Lilongwe at Area 9 where the goods are allegedly offloaded assuring the general public that the investigations are ongoing.
“MRA will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion and take appropriate legal action under the tax laws where evidence of wrongdoing is established,” reads MRA’s statement in part signed by its Acting Head Corporate Affairs Wilma Chalulu.
The Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) in its statement released on 27th August, 2025 called on all Malawians, all democrats, and the voices of reason to join it in condemning MCPs shameful attempt to silence opposition voices in Malawi through blatant intimidation and dictatorial tactics.
The AFORD has condemned the MCP government instructions to the MRA and the Malawi Police to obtain a search warrant for its President Enock Kamzingeni Chihana over party campaign materials that were legally obtained.
“This is a desperate and cowardly attempt to stifle dissent, instil fear and crushing opposition parties as elections are looming,” reads AFORD’s statement in part.
Political activist Bon Kalindo has already warned Malawians that once letting the MCP and President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera bounces back for the second mandate, many Malawians will be killed, there will be crackdown on all opposition leaders for arrests, prosecutions and thrown into the country’s prisons to rot there.
