Chiradzulu, Malawi – Michael Usi, leader of the Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu (OZAM) political party, has emphasized that national leaders should prioritize serving the people rather than acting arrogantly while in power.
Speaking this morning in Mtupanyama village, Chiradzulu, Usi unveiled a series of policies aimed at addressing pressing national challenges, which he calls the Rescue Plan for Malawi. The initiative focuses on improving the lives of Malawi’s most vulnerable populations, particularly in rural areas.

“I have chosen to launch this plan in rural communities rather than towns or hotels because villagers face real challenges such as food insecurity,” Usi said.
He further highlighted that elected leaders should not receive undue reverence or be treated as untouchable figures. “Leaders are chosen to serve the people, not to be worshipped,” he added.
OZAM’s Rescue Plan aims to tackle issues such as poverty, hunger, and access to basic services, with a strong focus on rural development, ensuring that Malawi’s most marginalized communities are not left behind.
This launch comes as Malawi continues to face economic and social challenges, making community-focused interventions increasingly crucial for sustainable development.
