Lilongwe, Malawi – The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has urged the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to avoid making statements or engaging in actions that could disrupt peace as the nation awaits official results from the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
Speaking at a press conference in Lilongwe, DPP Director of Elections Sameer Suleman emphasized that his party fully respects the will of Malawians and will safeguard the democratic process.
“We are surprised that MCP is telling Malawians to wait for MEC results while at the same time making statements that could create unnecessary tension. Our party believes in peace and order,” said Suleman.
Supporting this position, DPP Vice-President for the Central Region, Alfred Gangata, expressed confidence that the party is performing strongly in the polls held yesterday. He assured supporters that the DPP’s presidential candidate is on course to secure victory.
Gangata highlighted that early tallies and observations from across the country show the party gaining ground even in regions traditionally considered strongholds of other political competitors..

DPP Urges Calm Amid Election Tension
The DPP leadership has called on Malawians to remain calm and trust the official electoral process. The party commended the Malawi Defence Force and the Malawi Police Service for maintaining peace and order during and after voting.
As the nation awaits MEC’s official announcement of results, political analysts warn that statements from political parties must be measured to prevent confusion and potential unrest.
