Five years after being ousted by a court-sanctioned fresh presidential election on the 23rd June, 2020, 85- year-old Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has reclaimed the country’s presidency defeating his rival 70- year-old Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

There have been jubilations and celebrations all over the country after the announcement by Mec Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja declaring Professor Mutharika as the 16th September, 2025 presidential election winner.

It is quite clear that these celebrations will go on throughout the night making Thursday a public holiday to prove to the world that Malawians have spoken, the choice of the people has been made, it is Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

There have been calls from all Malawians for all opposition parties to unite to form one strong opposition block against President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera but this was not made possible, money from the MCP weakened the mind of some opposition leaders.

It was no wonder that some of the opposition party leaders started de-campaigning a fellow opposition party leader Professor Mutharika for Malawians to lose trust and hope so that they don’t vote for an elderly person whose body is frail and incapacitated.

These opposition party leaders were praying to go alone so that in the second round they team up with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to bounce back into government but God has made the difference, no Re-Run.

Malawians after getting messages of de-campaigning Professor Mutharika, they unanimously agreed to vote for him even if they don’t see him campaigning or is moving on a wheel chair speaking for itself that they were for change of government.

On 16th September, 2025 Malawians in their large numbers patronized all polling stations across the country to vote for a maize symbol standing for DPP and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and it was clear that from the unofficial results released, Mutharika was heading for a victory.

“Professor Mutharika was escorted by the MCP to an early grave and has risen back from the grave to reclaim his snatched presidency from Chakwera with 3,035,249 votes (56.8 percent) against 1,765,170 votes for Dr. Lazarus Chakwera representing 33.0 percent” reads the declaration.

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard Counsel Silvester Ayuba James, says he has no kind of words for Reverend Chakwera describing him as incompetent saying he was there just for his family and friends only.

Ayuba James says Chakwera’s weaknesses are just too numerous to list, he was too weak for a president of any club saying he has never seen a leader so dumb and indecisive, yet he came at a time when timely decision-making was needed the most.

“This guy came to finish MCP, he has left us worse than he found us, he has dented our legacy beyond correction, I will never be able to forgive him, a man without any class, with zero ambition, with no sense of urgency in anything and everything he did,” reads his writings on the wall.
