The announcement was made by IHAM Vice Chairperson Riaz Abdulsata during the association’s 10th surgical camp at Nguludi Mission Hospital in Chiradzulu.

Reducing Surgical Backlog in Malawi

Abdulsata said the initiative is aimed at improving the lives of Malawians who often wait over a year for surgical treatment. He added that the camps are targeting at least 100 patients per session, with beneficiaries coming not only from Chiradzulu but also from districts such as Ntcheu and Chikwawa.

Collaboration with International Doctors

Dr. Hisham Shaban from Physicians Across Continents (PAC) revealed that more than 50 patients had been operated on by the third day of the camp. He reassured Malawians of the organization’s continued support in providing much-needed surgical assistance.

Nguludi Mission Hospital Benefits

Speaking on behalf of Nguludi Mission Hospital, Senior Clinical Officer Denis Zalira commended IHAM for organizing its first surgical camp at a CHAM facility. He explained that patients were assisted with different surgical cases, including hernias, vascular issues, and bowel problems. Zalira further highlighted that the collaboration has helped local medical staff gain new surgical skills from foreign experts.

Patients Grateful for Support

One of the beneficiaries, Jafali Jalasi, who underwent surgery for a hernia, expressed gratitude to IHAM and its partners for giving him a chance to access timely treatment.
