Political activist Bon Kalindo has expressed his great concern over the new government’s delays in arresting suspects who took the 8 day’s transition period as honeymoon to steal public resources in various institutions.
The 8 day’s transition period has been proved to be not health for Malawians because a lot of things happened during this period in government as social media reported that some government vehicles number plates were removed for private numbers and others, stolen.
There were reports of looting property at the Kamuzu Palace and over K3.4 trillion was stolen from government in just 3 months to the 16th September, 2025 general elections, all this thanks to the 8 day’s transition period.
But, a leaked Programme which was circulating in various media platforms indicated that 23rd September, 2025 was set to inaugurate Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera as the 7th President of the Republic of Malawi.
From the leaked MCP programme, it was clear that IF President Chakwera had won the presidential elections, the 8 day’s transition period could not have been observed but this worked because a new President was elected after winning the elections with landslide victory.
Speaking through an audio clip, Kalindo has questioned the DPP led government why it is taking time to arrest suspects who stole vehicles, property and other items in government taking advantage of the 8 day’s transition period?
Kalindo said the stealing of shepherd docks at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe is a clear testimony that a lot of public property was looted dismissing earlier claims which were made by the MCP that DPP destroyed the State House.
He has called for the arrest of all people suspected to have looted public property in government without mercy saying this will be a lesson to the would- be offenders to take care of government property and all other resources.
“Let all those that stole, looted public property be arrested and prosecuted in a court of law without mercy, they themselves did not have mercy for the country’s poor citizens,” said Kalindo.
He has expressed his deep concern over poor people who are being arrested and are languishing in the country’s prisons for stealing chickens and sugarcanes while the real thieves are outside prison enjoying because of having connections with politicians.
Kalindo said having connections in government has made MCP panga wielding thugs who were answering charges of terrorizing and hacking innocent people in Malawi granted bail while some inmates who did not commit any case, no lawyer is representing them.
He said in Malawi justice is being bought with money and without money, one cannot receive justice claiming that panga wielding thugs who by today could have been in prison for their various offenses committed, their money has bought for them justice and freedom.
