Former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has congratulated the Malawi Women’s National Netball Team, the Queens, following their impressive 46–42 victory over Botswana in their opening match of the Africa Netball Championship.
The match was played at the Griffin Saenda Netball Complex, where Malawi launched their campaign in style, thrilling local supporters with a strong performance.
In a congratulatory message, Professor Mutharika, together with the former First Lady, said the victory had laid “a solid foundation” for Malawi’s ultimate goal of winning the championship on home soil.
“Tonight you have won the fight, but the greater battle continues until the finishing line. We believe in you, and we stand with you every step of the way,” Mutharika said.
He also praised netball fans who turned up in large numbers to support the team and described the win as a shared national triumph.
The Queens are aiming to lift the continental title as the tournament continues in Lilongwe.
