In an exclusive interview, Agatha Mwenefumbo has broken her silence over the ongoing Lilongwe Private School (LPS) controversy and the public denial by Ms. Maria Asghar that they ever worked together.
When asked about her role at LPS, Mwenefumbo confirmed that she once worked at the school before being dismissed by Ms. Maria in October 2021.
She explained that she joined LPS during the leadership of three head teachers—Dr. Ireen, Ms. Priscilla, and Ms. Maria—and worked directly under all three during her tenure.
On the matter of employment documentation, Mwenefumbo revealed that although her dismissal came without an official reason, she possesses records of her employment including communications and work interactions.
Regarding colleagues or supervisors who could verify her employment, Mwenefumbo stated that she had numerous interactions with other staff under Ms. Maria’s supervision that could corroborate her story.
When asked why she thought Ms. Asghar denied ever knowing her, Mwenefumbo suggested it was because she refused to participate in tactics aimed at implicating another teacher for Ms. Maria’s own gain.
She described her experience working under Ms. Maria as extremely difficult, saying she “went through hell” and faced constant pressure and unjust treatment.
On hearing the denial, Mwenefumbo said she felt shocked and hurt, as it attempted to erase her professional contributions and personal struggles during her time at the school.
Mwenefumbo also emphasised that those questioning her credibility should understand that the truth is documented and can be verified through records and testimonies from other staff.
Finally, she stated that if the school were to release official records today, they would clearly confirm her employment history, her interactions with Ms. Maria, and the circumstances that led to her dismissal, validating her account of events at LPS.
This interview provides a rare and candid insight into the challenges faced by Mwenefumbo, shedding light on a controversy that has sparked public debate and scrutiny.
