Political commentator Suleman Chitera has delivered a blistering message to former president Lazarus Chakwera, declaring that newly reinstated President Peter Mutharika is now repairing the damage allegedly caused during Chakwera’s six-year rule.

Chitera said Malawians made the right decision by voting out Chakwera, arguing that the country had endured “economic collapse, policy confusion, and leadership paralysis” during his time in office.

“With Mutharika back in charge, Malawi finally has a chance to rebuild,” Chitera said. “He is restoring the systems Chakwera broke, stabilising the economy Chakwera weakened, and repairing the foundation Chakwera destroyed.”

He added that President Mutharika has moved swiftly to realign government priorities, tighten public financial controls, and revive development programmes that had stalled.

“Malawians were tired of excuses,” Chitera stressed. “They wanted leadership that works — not leadership that experiments. That is why they removed Chakwera and brought back Mutharika.”

According to Chitera, public expectations are high, but so is confidence that Mutharika will “clean up the mess” and steer the nation back toward growth, stability, and accountability.

As political dust settles after the transition, the spotlight now firmly rests on Mutharika’s promise to rebuild Malawi and deliver the change voters demanded.
