The Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has slammed the MCP-led government for failing to gazette Eidul Adhuha, accusing authorities of politicising one of Islam’s most sacred days.

The condemnation comes after the Ministry of Local Government released Malawi’s 2026 public holiday calendar — a list that completely omits Eidul Adhuha, raising eyebrows across the Muslim community.

MAM spokesperson Sheikh Dinala Chabulika said the government reduced a holy celebration to a political gesture, announcing it without the formal legal recognition of gazetting it.

“This is not just an oversight; it is a deliberate snub,” Chabulika said, warning that the omission undermines religious equality and marginalises Malawi’s Muslim population.

He added that MAM will submit a formal petition to the government, demanding that Eidul Adhuha be officially gazetted as a national public holiday immediately.
