A concerned citizen of Malawi Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda of Area 51 in Lilongwe, has appealed to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the First Lady Madam Getrude Mutharika to release women who are serving jail terms at Kachere prison in Lilongwe for the offence of fetching firewood in a government forestry protected area.

Kaliza Banda said following the video clip in circulation where a woman is speaking deeply concerned to see these women with their babies in a prison fence appealing to all to share her message to reach out all those who can assist, she has thought of sharing her message to the First citizen of the country.

She said these women at Kachere prison are serving prison sentences so too, their babies saying what is heartbreaking is that these women have left other children at home without care and no one is looking after them and their children are lacking motherly love.

Speaking through a video clip which is circulating in various special media platforms, the woman said she was deeply touched to see women with their babies at Kachere prison observing that the charges warranting them to land in prison, are heart breaking to narrate.

The woman has claimed that there are people who have committed criminal charges but because they have connections with politicians in government are left scot-free and they are untouchable wondering why the court has jailed these women for committing minor offences.

“I am voicing out my concern on behalf of them that they must be released in the name of God, they are not deserving to be in prison,” she said.

Kaliza Banda has urged individuals, well-wishers and organizations to help these women with babies to walk to freedom so that they take care and support other children they left in their respective homes before they were arrested, prosecuted, and serving prison sentences.

She has appealed to court judges on a special note to wear human faces in the same way they did to MCP panga wielding thugs that beside overwhelming evidence of terrorizing and hacking innocent people in Lilongwe and surrounding places, they were granted bail and they are at home together with their families.

The concerned citizen said the jailed women with babies did not commit criminal activities but fetching firewood to support their families saying this does not demand presidential pardon but judges to order for their release.

She has finally requested the First citizens to listen to the video clip in circulation appealing to all those that have the contacts of the First citizens to share the video clip to them expressing hope that after listening to the clip, they will do something good to the women.

Political activist Bon Kalindo said he would have loved if President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will pardon many prisoners who committed minor offences for real criminal suspects who are enjoying bread and tea outside prison to enter prison corridors.
