Second Vice President Enock Chihana has reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to delivering tangible development for Malawians, stressing that the campaign messages ahead of the September 16, 2025 General Elections were driven by national interest, not personal ambition.

Speaking during a vibrant developmental rally held on Sunday in Rumphi District, Chihana said the leadership of President Peter Mutharika remains resolute in fulfilling all campaign promises, regardless of challenges.

“We did not campaign for personal glory or self-enrichment. Our message was about national development, unity, and restoring hope. Today, let me repeat that Malawi will move forward in terms of development and unity,” said Chihana to loud applause from the crowd.

Chihana, who is also President of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), recalled how his party and its alliance partners traversed the country preaching peace, hope, and inclusive development—values he said are now guiding the administration’s governance agenda.

In a rare gesture symbolising humility and respect for traditional leadership, the AFORD leader knelt before chiefs present at the rally, thanking them for entrusting the current administration with leadership of the country. He said traditional leaders remain key partners in achieving grassroots development and national cohesion.

Addressing issues of food security, Chihana directed ADMARC officials to ensure that all satellite markets are opened without delay, so that people can easily access maize across the country.

In his remarks, Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe commended the government for what he described as a strong and promising start. He cited the stabilisation of the economy, the end of persistent fuel queues, and the timely distribution of subsidised fertiliser and seed under the Farm Input Subsidy Programme as clear signs that the country is on the right path.

“The people of Rumphi are seeing real change. These are developments that directly improve livelihoods,” said the Paramount Chief.

The rally attracted several notable figures, including AFORD Vice Chairperson Reverend Maurice Munthali, as well as representatives from the Democratic Progressive Party, underscoring the spirit of cooperation within the governing alliance.

The Rumphi rally forms part of a series of nationwide engagements aimed at updating citizens on government progress while reinforcing the administration’s development-first agenda.
