Leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), , has commended the development vision and early achievements of the administration led by President , describing them as a source of renewed hope for Malawians.
Mwenifumbo said the message President Mutharika delivered to the nation during the (SONA) was not only reassuring but also grounded in reality, reflecting tangible changes being experienced by citizens on the ground.
He stressed that his remarks were not meant to flatter the former Head of State, but rather to acknowledge progress where it has genuinely been made. According to Mwenifumbo, many of the issues highlighted in the address are visible and verifiable, with ordinary Malawians already feeling the impact in their daily lives.
“It is undeniable that within a short period, President Mutharika managed to turn around issues that the previous administration failed to resolve,” said Mwenifumbo. “These are not empty statements; people can see the changes with their own eyes.”
Among the key improvements cited by the NDP leader are the reduction in prices of essential commodities such as maize and cement, as well as the steady and reliable availability of fuel—an issue that has long crippled economic activity in the country.
Mwenifumbo noted that fuel availability is a backbone of economic performance, arguing that without fuel, productivity stalls and the economy grinds to a halt. He said the current situation, where fuel is readily accessible, has allowed businesses, transport, and trade to operate more smoothly.
The NDP leader further observed that these developments are restoring confidence among Malawians, giving them hope that the country is regaining stability and normalcy.
“All these factors combined are sending a clear signal to Malawians that the country is getting back on track,” Mwenifumbo said. “There is now a sense of direction and reassurance that things are finally falling into place.”
His remarks come amid ongoing public debate over economic recovery and governance, with Mwenifumbo’s endorsement adding to growing political discussion on leadership performance and national development priorities.
