Suleman Chitera Hails APM’s SONA as a Blueprint for Malawi’s Recovery and Progress

By Suleman Chitera

Political and social commentator has commended President for delivering what he describes as a strong, focused, and forward-looking State of the Nation Address (SONA), saying the speech carries real potential to move towards sustainable development.

Chitera says the address stood out for its clarity of vision and practical emphasis on the issues that matter most to ordinary Malawians. He notes that the President’s firm focus on economic recovery, food security, good governance, and national development sent a clear message of hope at a time when the country is yearning for stability and progress.

According to Chitera, the SONA demonstrated leadership that understands both the challenges facing the nation and the urgency required to address them. He argues that the outlined strategies, if implemented with discipline and honesty, can help rebuild confidence in the economy, stabilise livelihoods, and restore national pride.

“This was a well-articulated and patriotic address,” Chitera observes. “It shows a President who has a clear grasp of where the country is coming from and where it needs to go.”

However, the commentator is quick to stress that vision alone is not enough. He emphasises that for the ambitious plans outlined in the SONA to bear fruit, the government must prioritise consistent implementation, transparency in public affairs, and inclusive leadership that brings all Malawians on board.

Chitera believes that when policy direction is matched with decisive action, accountability, and unity of purpose, national transformation becomes possible. He adds that Malawians should remain engaged, hopeful, and supportive of development initiatives that are aimed at improving lives and strengthening institutions.

He concludes by congratulating President Mutharika for demonstrating what he calls a “patriotic heart” for the nation, urging leaders at all levels to turn the promises of the SONA into tangible results that can be felt across communities.

As Malawi looks ahead, Chitera says the address can serve as a roadmap for recovery—provided that words are translated into action, and leadership remains people-centred, transparent, and focused on the national interest.
