Chiradzulu-Thumbwe Member of Parliament and Minister of Finance, Joseph Mwanamvekha, has commended the Japanese government for its continued support towards Malawi’s development, describing it as a critical contribution to improving social service delivery.

Mwanamvekha made the remarks on Tuesday during an event held at Chikanguru Community Day Secondary School, where he emphasized the importance of partnerships in driving national development.

He noted that the construction of the multimillion-dollar school stands as a clear example of what can be achieved through international cooperation.

“They built this multimillion-dollar school and now we are talking of new projects,” said Mwanamvekha, highlighting the growing development momentum resulting from such collaborations.

The Minister stressed that Malawi cannot achieve sustainable development in isolation, underscoring the need for continued joint efforts between government and development partners.

Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, Naito Yasushi, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Malawi, stating that Japan strongly believes in collaborative approaches aimed at alleviating human suffering.

Yasushi said Japan’s interventions are designed to uplift communities by improving access to essential services such as education, which he described as a cornerstone for long-term development.

The development at Chikanguru Community Day Secondary School is part of Japan’s broader support to Malawi in sectors including education, health, and infrastructure—areas seen as key to enhancing the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.

The partnership between Malawi and Japan continues to yield tangible results, with both sides expressing optimism about future projects that will further strengthen social service delivery across the country.
