Malawian author and social commentator Stanley Onjezani Kenani has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign aimed at raising R10 million to assist Malawians facing xenophobic threats in South Africa.

Kenani says the initiative is intended to complement government efforts amid reports that some Malawians have been given less than two weeks to leave South Africa or risk being killed.

According to Kenani, the situation requires urgent intervention to ensure vulnerable Malawians are evacuated and provided with essential support.Shepherd Bushiri Calls for National Unity in Support of Returning Malawians

“We cannot let them die. We need to help them. As Malawians, we always come together to help each other in times of need. This is the time. I have received K2 million already, and I am putting in an additional K200,000 of my own, making it K2.2 million. Let’s raise more,” said Kenani.

He disclosed that the campaign has already attracted K2 million in donations, with his personal contribution pushing the total amount raised so far to K2.2 million.

Kenani said the funds will be used to provide transportation, food, accommodation, medical assistance, baby care supplies, clothing, blankets and hygiene packs for affected Malawians.Maloya Calls for Malawi to Prioritize Migrant Protection Amid Rising Economic and Climate Pressures
