According to Mama Chikamoneka, nowadays some young women have “mileage higher than a Lusaka–Nakonde Scania truck.” She claimed that by the time a man is paying Lobola, the “vehicle” has already changed too many drivers, the engine is overheating, the gearbox is making strange sounds, and even the shock absorbers surrendered years ago.

Mama Chikamoneka further suggested that the only fair Lobola in today’s generation should be K10 and a Fanta Orange because, in her words, “most of the warranty expired a long time ago.”

The outspoken woman said in the old days Lobola symbolized respect, dignity and family values, but today some relationships have more substitutions than a football match.
