Nathenje Parish in the Likuni Deanery has employed two catechists to support its pastoral work.
The new catechists, Christopher Suya and Mbeta, have been posted to Chitekwere and Matapila centres respectively.
Speaking during the orientation, Parish Superior Fr. Thomas Kasiya urged the catechists to dedicate themselves to serving Christians.
He reminded them that their work is a calling from God and should not be done for personal gain.
“Jesus did not work for the rich but for the vulnerable. He healed the sick. Today, you are the healers,” Fr. Kasiya said.Environmental neglect in Nathenje: Diaper waste chokes forests and threatens public health
“You must not be masters but servants. Follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ. The vineyard is large, but the workers are few. You are the saviours of today,” he added.
Fr. Kasiya also advised the catechists to focus on serving the faithful without seeking other incentives.
One of the newly recruited catechists, Mr. Christopher Suya, who will manage the Matapila zone, thanked the parish leadership for the opportunity.
He promised to work hard to improve the parish both socially and spiritually.Nathenje Residents Celebrate Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s Political Comeback
Suya also commended the facilitator for conducting the training, saying it had prepared them well for the task ahead.
“We are now confident we will deliver. We also thank our Father Superior for organising this course,” he said.
The training was organised by the parish council and facilitated by an experienced trainer.
It was attended by catechists and their wives.
Parish leaders said the programme is part of efforts to empower Christians both socially and spiritually.Auxiliary Bishop Of Lilongwe Urges Christians To Care For Their Priests
