Anti Corruption Bureau Alleges Chakwera Manipulated ACB Report

President Lazarus Chakwera has declined to comment on allegations that he manipulated a report that the Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB submitted to him, implicating senior government officials in multi-billion kwacha corruption scandals

A local governance institution, Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives-CDEDI is demanding that the president should come out clear himself on these allegations.

It is alleged that the Malawi leader manipulated the ACB report for political reasons.

After the report, Chakwera fired former Police Chief, George Kainja, suspended State House Chief of Staff, Prince Kapondamgaga and took away delegation duties from Vice President Saulos Chilima for their alleged implication in the Britain’s National Crimes Agency investigation report over the same.

But through his spokesperson, Anthony Kasunda, Chakwera says he cannot comment on the matter; pushing to his Information Minister Gospel Kazako who is yet to respond on the same.

President Chakwera returned home yesterday from the United States of America where he attended this year’s United Nations General Assembly.

A few days ago, Justice Minister, Titus Mvalo disclosed that government had hired some private practicing lawyers to help the bureau in prosecuting some corruption cases.

Recently, ACB Director General Martha Chizuma told the media that they were getting frustrated with attacks and accusations that the Bureau was doing little in the corruption fight in Malawi.

Malawians are angry with the conduct of ACB Director for implicating the president that he manipulated the report for political reasons, Malawians demands the removal of Chizuma from office for shaming the president
