In a tragic incident at Matiki 1 in Dwangwa, Nkhotakota District, 25-year-old Halima Kapoto has died after being electrocuted. The unfortunate event occurred when she stepped on a live electric wire that was connected to a pole designed to protect against lightning but had electric current running through it at the time.
The incident was confirmed by Nkhunga Police spokesperson Andrew Kamanga, who explained that the live wire was accidentally electrified, leading to Kapoto’s death.
According to Kamanga, Kapoto was on her way to visit her ailing relatives at Matiki 2 in Dwangwa when the tragedy occurred. She lost her life instantly at the scene of the accident.
The deceased hailed from Mputa Village under Traditional Authority Nankumba in Mangochi District.
Kapoto’s death has shocked the local community, with many mourning the loss of a young life due to such an unfortunate and avoidable circumstance. Authorities have urged the public to be cautious around electric installations to avoid similar accidents in the future.
