Trainload of Diesel Arrives at NOCMA Kanengo Depot Amid Ongoing Fuel Shortage

By Burnett Munthali

This morning, a train carrying 590,000 litres of diesel arrived at the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) Kanengo Depot in Lilongwe. The train, consisting of 15 wagons, is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to address the current fuel shortage that has affected many parts of the country.

NOCMA has assured the public that Malawi continues to receive a consistent supply of fuel and that the shortage will soon be resolved. Speaking to Zodiak Online, NOCMA Lilongwe Depot Manager Moffat Soko confirmed the arrival of the diesel and shared updates on the expected delivery of petrol supplies. “We expect 26 trucks carrying about 1 million litres of petrol to arrive in the country by the end of today. So far, 8 trucks have already arrived,” Soko stated.

The delivery of both diesel and petrol is part of NOCMA’s broader strategy to restore fuel availability and stabilize the situation, which has caused long queues at filling stations across the country. Soko added that the company is working tirelessly to ensure that fuel supplies are maintained to meet national demand.

The public is hopeful that these efforts will alleviate the fuel shortage, bringing an end to the disruptions caused by the ongoing supply challenges.
