Minister of Labour Agnes Nyalonje has officially resigned from her position in President Lazarus Chakwera’s Cabinet. This development has been confirmed by government officials, although Nyalonje herself has not directly explained the reasons behind her decision.
For months, Nyalonje has been notably absent from government functions and parliamentary sessions, raising questions about her status. Her absence became more pronounced during recent parliamentary discussions, where her input was expected.

On Friday, Deputy Leader of the House, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, informed Parliament that the government was not prepared to answer questions directed to the Minister of Labour, further fueling speculation about her role.
Rumors of Nyalonje’s resignation began circulating months ago, and since then, she has not been seen participating in official government activities. This prolonged absence hinted at a likely decision to step down, which has now been confirmed.
Nyalonje’s departure raises concerns about the implications for government operations, especially in the labour sector. Her resignation is expected to spark debates in the coming days about its impact on the administration and its handling of ministerial responsibilities.
