UTM Party to Proceed with NEC Meeting Despite Secretary General Patricia Kaliati’s Arrest

By Burnett Munthali

The UTM Party has confirmed that its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will proceed as planned tomorrow, Friday, despite the arrest of its Secretary General, Patricia Kaliati, earlier today.

In a statement to the press, UTM Publicist Felix Njawala assured party members and the public that the meeting would not be disrupted by Kaliati’s detention. According to Njawala, the party’s constitution allows for NEC meetings to proceed even in the absence of the Secretary General.

The crucial gathering will be chaired by UTM Vice President and President, Michael Usi. The meeting is expected to address key strategic issues as the party prepares for the upcoming general elections. Usi’s leadership during the meeting is seen as essential in maintaining unity within the party, especially amidst the current political uncertainties surrounding Kaliati’s arrest.

While details of the allegations against Kaliati remain unclear, Njawala emphasized that UTM remains focused on its objectives and will continue to operate according to its established principles and processes.
