The organisers of the Tour de Dwangwa Cycling Competition have revealed that the funds raised from this year’s event will go towards the construction of a perimeter fence at Nkhotakota LEA Primary School, a facility that caters specifically to special needs learners.
Scheduled for November 17th, 2024, at Dwangwa in Nkhotakota District, this year’s race aims to raise K60 million for the construction of the fence, which will provide much-needed security and privacy for the school.
Dyson Mpeketula, the Chairperson of the Organising Committee, emphasized that securing the necessary funds is a top priority. He revealed that Illovo Sugar Malawi Plc has already committed K20 million towards the race, with other sponsors also supporting the initiative.
“We are appealing to individuals and the corporate world to come and sponsor the event,” Mpeketula said, underlining the importance of community and corporate involvement to ensure the success of the project.
The Tour de Dwangwa is expected to attract around 250 professional and local cyclists, who will race in a show of sportsmanship and community spirit. The event will not only promote cycling but also contribute to a worthy cause that will benefit students with special needs at Nkhotakota LEA Primary School.
The competition is set to be an exciting and impactful occasion, with the organisers hopeful that the funds raised will create a safe and supportive environment for the school’s learners.
