The United Transformation Movement (UTM) is holding its highly anticipated convention today, Sunday, 17 November, at Chisanga Complex in Mzuzu. The event, which commenced at 8:30 AM, has drawn over 800 delegates, all set to cast their votes for key leadership positions within the party. A total of 60 positions are up for grabs, and the results are expected to significantly influence the party’s future direction.
In a statement released by the convention organizer, Masankho Banda, he stressed the importance of maintaining a smooth and respectful environment throughout the event. Banda urged all attendees to behave in an orderly manner, making it clear that any disruptions would not be tolerated.
The convention is regarded as a crucial moment for UTM as it seeks to solidify its leadership and define its path forward. Prominent figures contesting for the party’s presidency include Dalitso Kabambe, Patricia Kaliati, Mathews Mtumbuka, and Newton Kambala.
Notably, former UTM leader Michael Usi is not participating in the convention. He cited the party’s failure to adhere to its internal regulations as the reason for his withdrawal from the race. Usi’s absence has sparked questions regarding his future political involvement.
As the convention unfolds, all eyes are on Mzuzu to see which leader will emerge victorious and steer UTM into the next chapter of its political journey.
