FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have rejected defender Alick Lungu’s request to leave the People’s Team for free. Times Sport has learnt.
According to sources Lungu has been dodging Bullets on the issue of committing his future following his recovery from injury.
The source revealed that Lungu snubbed Bullets improved offer, which new coach Peter Mponda had recommended.
“As such, the coach advised him to sort out his contractual issues with Bullets before he joins the rest of the squad in training,” the source
Lungu’s Manager Jonathan Mhango confirmed that the player was undecided and elusive on his future.
“Alick lately advised me not to open any contract negotiations with Bullets, saying he is done with the team.
“I received a very good offer from Zimbabwe but he turned it down. I do not know what has become of him,” Mhango said.
Bullets interim Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga confirmed having blocked the players request to leave for free.
Chigoga said they expected the left fullback to see out his contract or else potential suitors have to activate his release clause.
“It is very true. Alick has been refusing to sign a new contract since last year. When the head coach advised him to sort out his contract issue with the club, he took advantage [of that] to request for an early release
“Since it is him who wants to terminate his contract, we would like him to do what his contract says about his decision,” Chigoga said
Lungu’s contract will expire in July this year.
Times Sports efforts to contact him were futile yesterday.
The Flames fullback spent the better part of last season on the sidelines due to an injury, forcing Bullets to reportedly spend about K15 million on his hospital bills.
Lungu sustained the injury in 2023 while on national team duty.
