Ben Longwe urges Malawians to fight for their hard-won democracy

By Vincent Gunde

Human Rights Advocator Sir Charles Ben Longwe, has urged patriotic Malawians to stand up and fight for their hard-won democracy vowing that no one or a political party must take the citizens back to the 1964 era.

Ben Longwe said when Malawians fought hard for democracy, MCP went around the country for the people not to vote for democracy on the claims that democracy is war observing that the war has now come in Malawi with the MCCP itself.

He has claimed that people are sleeping with empty stomachs, Kwacha devaluations, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities without control, claiming that the MCP led government has abused the citizens inviting the youth in diaspora and those within the country that this is the time to fight for their lost democracy.

Speaking through an audio clip from his Hard knocks programme, Ben Longwe has claimed that the Malawi laws have not been respected since 2019 instead of the country holding General Elections on 21st May, 2024 Parliamentarians extended the period to 16th September, 2025 to suit their own needs.

Ben Longwe has urged Malawians to redeem their country for the laws of Malawi to be followed reminding President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera that he was elected into that office on 23rd June, 2020 and on this date, he has to seize power.

He has advised Malawians to get prepared to do their vote on 23rd June, 2025 or else they change this government reminding Malawians that Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda refused to change and Malawians changed him in 1994.

The Human Rights Advocator has assured President Chakwera that change is a revolution that is coming, if he is failing to change, Malawians will change him observing that Malawians cannot afford to live in 5 years and 3 months of pain and sufferings.

He has claimed that all Malawians, soldiers, police officers, teachers, ordinary citizens and business people are suffering claiming that nothing is moving in Malawi, time is now for Malawians to wake-up to reclaim their country.

“We need change in Malawi, if you don’t want change, we will change you on 23rd June, 2025 for an interim government to oversee the September, 2025 elections,” said Longwe.

He said in 1994 Black South African youth mobilized themselves to fight the apartheid government for their independence and freedom saying this time around, Malawian youth are ready to change their country back to democracy.

Longwe has finally described Malawi as having a rotten government advising the MCP government to prove him wrong that there is rule of law in Malawi arguing that rule of law does not mean a party in government to use politics to arrest their opponents.
