President and Commander in Chief of the 14th registered Revolutionary party in Malawi-Muvi wa Chilungamo Bantu Saunders Jumah, says devaluation of the Malawi Kwacha is not a solution to resuscitate the country’s collapsing economy amid international aid freeze.
Jumah has joined Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda who has called on Malawians to give inputs to government and President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who appealed for patience that it has taken him 5 years to remove the pulse in the wounds for another 5years mandate for the country to register economic transformation.
He said by seeking for patience from citizens, President Chakwera has proved to Malawians that he has been presiding over a failed government that it will take him 15 years for his government to start giving Malawians cheaper goods and services as before.
Speaking through a Revolutionary voice, Jumah said no Malawian will wait for government to bring in transformation after 15 years advising President Chakwera and the MCP government to investigate how they found the country’s economy on the 27th June, 2020 and the reasons that made the economy to start falling.
Jumah said President Chakwera founded a stable economy with an inflation of one-single digit meaning that life was cheaper to all Malawians as prices of essential commodities were reasonably fair within the reach of all including poor people.
He said President Chakwera had an opportunity to fix the country’s ailing economy and this was evidenced with the Malawi Parliament extending their mandate that instead of holding elections on the 21st May, 2024 they shifted it to 16th September, 2025.
The MRP President said President Chakwera and the MCP forgotten that Malawians in every 5 years have to change or retain government, they had trust in MDF and Malawi Police that they will use force to block the people speaking for change of government.
“Malawi has got its own fundamental pillars of democracy, no military and police will force people to change their views, Malawi is not Rwanda or Zimbabwe,” said Jumah.
He has advised President Chakwera and the MCP that if they are serious in resuscitating the country’s collapsing economy amid international aid freeze, they should make lifestyle audits from the President, Ministers down to the cleaners in government offices.
Jumah said President Chakwera must check and investigate how riches are his ministers, dispose all the luxury vehicles for ministers and senior government officials, cut all allowances and salaries by 50 percent, freeze all bank accounts for politicians from 2004, stop domestic and international borrowings, sign off with IMF and the World Bank and impose new laws that Malawians must live within their means, among others.
He has assured President Chakwera that there is money in the country to resuscitate the collapsing economy amid international aid freeze advising Malawians that time has come for the country to differentiate politics of rhetoric and national development that a name, money and rhetoric cannot change the country but mindset change.
