The Catholic Church in Malawi has announced that it requires K340 million to successfully organize a major national conference for children within the church. The event, scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 5 this year at Don Bosco Parish in Lilongwe, is expected to bring together at least 1,800 children and 200 teachers from all regions of the country.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the church’s headquarters in Lilongwe, Bishop Vincent Mwakhwawa emphasized that the primary objective of the conference is to deepen the spiritual lives of children while also nurturing good moral values. He highlighted that the gathering will serve as an opportunity for young Catholics to strengthen their faith, interact with peers, and gain a better understanding of their role in the church and society.

“The aim of this conference is to enhance the spiritual and moral development of our children. We want them to grow with strong Christian values and a sense of responsibility toward their peers and the wider community,” said Bishop Mwakhwawa.

To ensure the smooth running of the event, the church is appealing to well-wishers, individuals, and organizations to contribute financially towards the conference preparations. The funds will be used for logistical arrangements, accommodation, food, and other essential needs to facilitate the successful hosting of the event.

Bishop Mwakhwawa further called on Catholics and the general public to support the cause, emphasizing that every contribution, no matter how small, will help in making the gathering a success.

This will be the first national children’s conference of its kind, held under the theme “Children Praying and Helping Their Fellow Children.” The event is expected to provide a platform for young Catholics to engage in prayer, discussions, and activities that promote solidarity, compassion, and a deeper connection with their faith.

As the preparations continue, the Catholic Church remains hopeful that with the generosity of its members and well-wishers, the necessary funds will be raised to make the event a memorable and impactful experience for the children.
