Political analyst Burnett Munthali, says President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in his State of the National Address (SONA) painted a picture of a country where 22 districts were undergoing significant development, saying the reality is far from what the President had led the citizens to believe.
Munthali said the truth is that President Chakwera lied to the citizens claiming that only 65 police houses have been completed in the last 5 years, in Jenda, only 10 houses have been built, Mangochi, 15 houses have been completed and Blantyre 40 houses have been constructed.
He said these numbers do not reflect the grand promises made by the President in Parliament saying the figures show that the MCP government has failed to deliver on its commitments made at the time the citizens voted for it into office in June, 2020.
Writing in a speech, Munthali has questioned Malawians how they will trust President Chakwera who stand before them and lies so blatantly advising them that this is a time for a change, it is time for them to hold their leaders accountable for their actions,
He said Malawians deserve better than this, they deserve a leader who is honest with them, a President who will not stand before Parliament and mislead the people of Malawi with half-truth and false promises.
“We deserve a government that is accountable, a government that delivers on its promises and a government that values the trust of its people,” reads Munthali’s speech in part.
He said President Chakwera’s lies have not only misled Parliament but also undermined the very fabric of democracy saying when a President lies in Parliament, it is not just insult to the institution, it is an insult to every Malawian who believes in the principles of honesty, transparency and integrity.
Munthali has called on President Chakwera to come clean in the SONA and admit that he has failed to meet its commitments asking him to stop hiding behind empty rhetoric and start telling the truth to the people of Malawi.
He said this is the time for the MCP government to take responsibility for its failures, stop deceiving the people, and start working for the betterment of the nation advising citizens not to tolerate a government that lies to them, not allow themselves to be misled any longer and they should demand accountability, transparency and truth.
